    Pretty sure they are illegal in all states, however they will almost never check your car for them and most vw's don't get pulled over as they aren't a high priority target.

        tickets is one thing, the bigger risk is if you have a car accident, and a resulting insurance claim, then on inspection, the insurance company will use the illegal spacers as a technicality to deny your claim.

        even worse if you have a 3rd party liability and another party claims against you for $$$MM (injury costs, you run into a piece of property etc, again, your insurance won't cover it, and the cash comes out of your pocket
