Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Best tyres - Continental

I have had a heap of tyres on my cars from mid range Good years to sports kumho to cheap maxxis tyres and hankook and i just purchased a set of Conti Premium Contact 2. i generally look to the boys in this forum for valid opinions but why is there no one shouting out
Premium Contact 2they are so amazing i feel like my car is gliding silently and then when i need the grip through the cornering its there gripping like i have never had before! i paid $164 a corner and compared to the closest thing to it P7 ($139.80) they are just the best. we drive german cars and they deserve germany engineered tyres... so i though i'd start this thread so if people are looking at Conti tyres can see peoples opinions

my GTI came factory with Conti SC2...loved em...they are awesome...prone to soft sidewall failure though...i had one blow crossing a cats eye at speed!

AWESOME all round tyre though....still got 4 in the shed on my stockies

Currently running Maragoni Zeta Linea - dry grip > Conti....wet is not the case...Contis had it in spades

Just replaced the SC2 on my car with Toyo Proxes 4...was gonna go with the Kumho KU31, as was suggested here, but my tyre guy talked me into the Proxes4 for the same price as he said they wont wear as quickly as the KU31....I am damned impressed, even in the wet they grip like no tomorrow! M&S rated too! bit more expensive than the conti's though!

guys, when you are forming your views on relative performances, make sure you aren't comparing your brand new tyres' performance with the the old ones you have just removed. Thats a very unfair comparison

difficult, but try to remember back 10-20000kms ago what the performance was like when your old ones were new

yeah something i really notice with the conto prem 2s is that they have the handling of a mid 2 high range sports tyre and the comfort of a full touring tyre

            your right Gareth

Might be OK for some but in 17" only come in 55 or 60 series and 18" only in 55 series. I need 45 series (235/45/R17) so have been looking at ContiProContact, it's more of a touring tyre but rated well by some on this forum.

Grip is great, especially in wet, but Conti sidewalls are way too soft for Australian conditions, especially in the lower profile sizes

i got quoted similar to that at one place, but i think the place i got them from in the end had been way over stocked as when i looked at the date manufactured one was early 08 and the other 4 were late 08... plus it the biggest dealer in wa for conti
