Would welding spacers to the inside of your wheel make them legal?

Hey Guys,
Just a thought, this may not be do-able but would it be possible to have spacers welded to the inside of your wheel mounting face? Would this then make it legal? I may be way off the mark but just an idea.

From memory, adding spacers to any car unless they were factory fitted is illegal.
I don't think it matters where you fit them.

An interesting thought.

The rules (in NSW and Vic, I suspect other states are the same) are that you're not allowed to use a spacer between the hub and the wheel unless the car came with spacers from the factory.

If the spacer were somehow made to be part of the wheel (welded), then really, it's part of the wheel at that point.

There's no rule that a wheel has to be made from a single casting, nor a single material. I guess you'd have to look at the rules for modifying wheels to see if they allow this kind of change to them.

There's also the matter of safety, and whether your insurer would agree with you that it was appropriate.

there are strict rules in regards to wheel modifications from memory. you would have to check out what the australian standards say

Dude I dare say you won't find a welder that will want to do it, let alone be able to do it perfectly!

you could probably get a machine shop to do it for you. but there are other solutions to welding spacers to your wheel...
