  • Where to get a wheel alignment done in Sydney?

    Hi all,

I need to get a wheel alignment done on my Bora V6 4Motion, and I want it done properly.

I live near Parramatta and work in Gordon (in Sydney!), so anywhere around/between the two would be ideal. I've had one suggestion to go to a place at Tempe, but it's just too far out of my way.

    Any recommendations?

I have heard a few on this forum recommend Granville Pedders. Close to where you live!
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Big O's in Moorebank do a good job, and know their euro's. They charged me $35 last time.

The only place I'd recomend is Heasemans at Tempe/St.Peters. He'll charge you "lots" but it's worth it.

If you couldn't be bothered driving that far then why not give Seb a ring and ask him who he recomends (he's out that way isn't he?).

Seb mentioned a place at Tempe - so that's probably the same one!

It's not a matter of "couldn't be bothered" - I work 10 hours a day five days a week and then have Uni on top of that!

That said, if that's where I need to go, I guess that's where I need to go.

Sorry, substitute "haven't got time", "too far away", etc as required. Didn't mean it to sound nasty.

I'm sure there are other people that can do a good job. The main reason I go to Doug is that he's not too far away (15km & near the station) & he was always happy to share his knowledge when I was doing wheel alignments 20 years back, so I'm kind-of repaying a debt.

The last 4 wheel alignment I got done on the Liberty was $130. The Golf was $70 just for the front.

The other place I've used is Excellor Steering near Bankstown but I think he retired.

Surely in a city of 4.5million people there are more than 2 that can handle a wheel alignment?

Are these both for just front wheeled alignments? I need to look for a 4-wheel alignment when i put my coils in.

They just did the fronts on mine, stopped it from steering to the left. And if Big O's is good enough for my mate who takes his M3 there, its good enough for me!

Sorry, dont know. Ring them & ask. They took about 60mins to align a wrx ahead of me but no idea what they charged him. Mine took 10mins (!) mmmm. Perhaps it was easy with new rims & tyres ...

Thanks mate. As of right now I don't need to look for an alignment just yet because the person who sold me his coilovers went back on the deal for a bit more money. I'll keep it in mind though

Jax do 4-wheel alignments with detailed print-outs of your alignment.

However, they won't be able to "align" your rear on the spot, all they can do is take numbers down for you. Such is the way our Mk3s are set up. You'll know when you start doing the rears that there's no adjustment available at all.

What are the recommended settings for a Bora V6 4Motion (I assume no different to those for a MkIV R32)...

Don't know, but if I was setting one up without a spec sheet I'd make it similar to an AWD Subaru.

                              Front
Camber: around -0.5 to -1.0 with a bit more negative on the LHS than the RHS.
Toe: 0 to a maximum of 1mm toe out.

                              Rear
Camber: as close to -1.0 as I can get it.
Toe: depending on the driver but if they want it to be a bit lively with the turn-in then about 1mm toe out as well (if it's a granny then 0mm-0.5mm toe out)
