  • Adapter question?

I am at the point where i need to replace tyres on the VR.
Rather than spend good money on good tyres for the 15s, I would rather get adapters and put the Merc 16s on. At leats do half now, half when funds permit again.

    A couple of questions.
I am not sure about the total legalities of adapters. That said are they THAT obvious?

If I can do this, I would need 5x100-5x112 adapters. Anyone know where i can get them? Preferably without costing an arm and a leg.

The merc wheels are 16x7 and 16x8. Not sure of the offset off the top of my head. I believe they are 57.1 CB

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hell yes, they are going to look friken wicked on the VR

Keep an eye out on VWVortex.com for some adapters (if you want second hand ones cheaper) or google "5x100 to 5x112 adapters" and you should come up with some places that do them. H&R and FK make them and both very reputable brands

i can machine up some alloy ones for you taperd and all, 57.1 cb 5x100 to 5x112 thats a piece of cake, obviously for a small price compared to overseas brands

the only problem is that you may have offset issues

Little OT, but Dom, seeing as you can make them, can you make other adapters/spacers?

            X2, any 4x100 - 4x108 by any chance? I'm really not comfortable paying 450 + 100 shipping for a set of adapters...

I bought mine (now in Steve's hands) from ADAPT-IT-USA. They were decent quality and was a good price too, except they didn't ship direct to Australia. I got a mate from the US to receive my package then ship it down for me. Total ended up being ~$320USD and the dollar was strong at the time. Came inclusive with studs and nuts to hold the adapter onto the hub, and pressed studs onto the adapter to attach the wheel onto. Minimum thickness was 25mm. Motorsport Tech (google search them - they're also in the US) are a lot more expensive but they can make 20mm adapters.

Find out the offset on your Merc wheels. If you're planning on putting the 7's at the front, you don't want any less than a final offset of ET20 and for the rear 8's, final offset of around ET20 will have the wheels sit flush.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I do not have an "ET: XX" stamp on the wheels. The markings are:

                  Wheel 1
                  16x7
                  Y-046
                  A circle with "H on 10"
                  A circle with "95 on 7"
                  Tyre: 205/50

                  Wheel 2
                  16x7
                  Y-046
                  A circle with "H on 11"
                  A circle with "95 on 7"
                  Tyre: 205/50

                  Wheel 3
                  16x8
                  Y-046
                  A circle with "K on 18"
                  A circle with "95 on 9"
                  Tyre: 225/50

                  Wheel 4
                  16x8
                  Y-046
                  A circle with "V on 19"
                  A circle with "95 on 9"
                  Tyre: 225/50

From that I think the "Y-046" is the model number.
The "letter on a number" may be casting/production/manufacture code/label.
And then as far as 16x7 goes, 95/7 = 13.57
                  16x8, 95/9 = 10.55

Sorry for the lack of "useful" information. Best I have unfortunately.

So according to Ray, I would need 8mm spacers for the front for about 20, and 10mm for the rear?

First up I will say I would be keen to do business with Dom. Just want to wokr out what i need though, so I do it properly.

Researching FK. These seem to be the ones.

then you hit up 108 euro each and find that comes to 817 dollars.

Dom would be getting whatever we work out plusa carton on top. Thats insane money for adapters!
