  • MkV GTI Tyres

My Dad's GTI's front tyres are due for replacement. The problem is the rears are still almost like brand new. If he puts on a different make to the Conti CS2s that he currently has is he going to encounter any issues?
Also if not what do the MkV GTI drivers out there recommend? VW have recommended Pirellis and Michelins (not sure of the particulars).
    Cheers,
    Trent

not issues as such, if the front tyres are more grippy the car will be more prone to oversteer and vise versa. not really the best way to control the dynamics of your car do the front conti's have enough to scrape by on the back? the rear just trundles along anyway which is why theres such a big difference.

Yeah it doesn't look like it. The fronts are pretty much down to the wear indicators.
It looks like when he's had it serviced (by the dealer) they haven't rotated the tyres. I believe this is one of the service items as it is on the R.

Where it will matter is with the ESP, if it has different types of tyres front and rear, then from what ive heard it not such a good combo. Im sure there is a par of second hand conti's floating around off a GTI that would see thru the life of what he has left on the rear.

or better yet ask the dealer for some decent conti's they'd just replaced on a paranoid person's car

Why not swap fronts & backs? It would seem the logical answer ... rears have very little wear compared to fronts.

I've put it to him about that but I think with 30000kms on them they're well and truly down to the wear markers.
There doesn't seem to be a general consensus on here about the tyres to put on the car but I've given him the options on what people have done.
              Will see how we go.

I'd be looking seriously at Goodyear F1's - they won the Wheels test again (even though this year with the Asymmetrics that are not yet available).

I find them excellent on my Passat V6 - good grip as well as good kms.
