Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    New stereo

    Hi All

    Is it possible to not lose my steering wheel controls and use the cars inbuilt microphone on my 6R Polo comfortline if I were to upgrade the head unit.

    Im looking to get rid of my RCD510 to something aftermarket, as the ipod connectivity is shocking, and i want to connect my iphone 6 and not use bluetooth streaming.

    In short, depends on how much you want to spend and what you want out of it.

    Most aftermarket units allow steering wheel controls. There is only 1 aftermarket unit that I know of that retains the built in microphone (Audiosources DS series), most others have their own on the unit, or allow you to plug in an external one.

      Have a look at the Pioneer setup, I almost went to that before decided on RNS510.
