  • You CAN put custom POIs on the RNS510!

I've just spent my weekend working out how to put custom POIs onto the RNS510.

I've re-compiled and rebuilt the map DVD with all my speed & redlight cameras... Now all I need to do is work out how to force the unit to re-load the maps. Seems it will not do it unless it thinks the maps are newer than the ones on the HDD.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I dont have a DVD in front of me but i would think there should be a version file proberly a .cfg file in either the root of the DVD or in one of the sub directories. Open it up in notepad and advance the version number by one and then the Nav should see it as a new version of maps. If you get it to work can you post how you recompiled the maps as i am kean to add the data to the NZ maps

      cfg file changes

Good Idea, but what if I want to add the real version 15 maps?

Got to work out how to make the unit "forget" it's got maps, or take the version on the unit back a step... Dang!

Well done for all your hard work but it was not nessescary.
There is a free program available that will do this for you that a guy in CZ finished writing about 3 weeks ago.
It works very well and i have added all "saftey" cameras and BP fuel to my disc.

To load the maps to the HD you need to change the name of the disc and the name in the toc file.
        Eg 6280 to 6282

Anyhow have a look here and you will find all the info you need on the RNS510, adding POI's, etc.
