  • Bluetooth Installation on VW Golf GT Sport

    Hi guys,

Looking to upgrade my car bluetooth and stereo to an RCD510. As my car is Jan 08 I think the CAN bus won't be an issue. I've read a lot of articles on bluetooth modules and bluetooth compatibility for MKV Golfs, however I still cannot find an answer.

I've purchased the Genuine Version B 9w7 Bluetooth Module from Ebay ($120 not sure if steal or not, the others were bluetooth kits at $360). From what I understand I'll be able to control my phone from the RCD510 but not from the steering wheel buttons.

I already have a bluetooth system in my car (Don't ask which one, all I know is there's a microphone behind the steering wheel on the cluster). I have a series of questions, and would love some clarification

    - Do I need any other cables/harnesses to install this module?
    - Do I need any VCDS coding? I've read somewhere that if the CAN Bus is coded the steering wheel buttons can work as well (Red MFD), is this true/false
    - Do I need a Bosch or Delphi RCD-510 (I've read somewhere only Bosch works with 9w7)?

    Thank you

Red mfd does not work with BT kits. You should have got a plug and play harness abd mic with the BT kit? Yes you still need vcds coding to function and yes delphi do not work with 9w7 so you need a bosch unit.

I only got the module as my car already has a BT kit (mic and harness should be same yes) but I think it's the Volk-L (constantly on when the radio is on)
Okay, so I won't be able to code it into the MFD unless I code the CAN Gateway yes?

Mk5 golfs with red mfd never came with factory bt. It might be a nokia retro fit kit thats in the car as yes they are the same plug and does work as i replaced my 08 jetta nokia kit with a 9w7 control unit and works fine but the dont interact with red mfd you have to use the radio touch screen. There is a until that will make a 9w7 work with red mfd added to the bt kit but cant remember what its called..think they are about $150

My old Mk5 had a dealer installed Kufutec FISCON bluetooth system. Could that have been the old unit installed?

Yes either that or nokia. Either one you should be able to use the wiring in the car

http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...led-97131.html --> According to this it's the CAN bus.

Anyway, now I know I need a Bosch RCD510 and someone to code the BT for me ! Thank you
