  • Head units with Android Auto / Apple Carplay

    Hey guys..

So they've started announcing aftermarket head units that support Android Auto and/or Apple Carplay:

Pioneer brings Android Auto to the car you already own
(ignore the date on this. it should say 2015)

    Specific model page:

    AVIC-F70DAB Pioneer - Navigation - GPS - Car Entertainment

From the looks of it, the AVIC-F70DAB should support the canbus integration for our VWs for aircon and parking sensors. Can someone with more experience validate that?

Also, my guess is that we should be able to get steering wheel controls (ie volume up/down, etc) via the "Hard wired remote ready" feature?

My 2009 R36 still has the RCD510 and no bluetooth, so I've been holding out for something like this for Android.. so pretty keen on this if it can integrate with the car properly!

Howdy, the Pioneer units have had the ability to transfer info to car displays for a while, but the 3rd party interfaces to make it work are available for very few cars and headunit combinations. We still use and recommend the connects2 canBUS wiring kits for the VWs as the "hard wire" ready feature is only or use with resistive ladder load cars. But I can vouch for both Apples CarPlay and the Android Auto functions. They do work well.

I haven't found anywhere selling the Pioneer Android unit as yet, I would be keen to have a look at one.

Howdy, I have them in stock (first in QLD) PM me if you like more info (I don't want to get in trouble for soliciting)
