  • RNS-510 Upgrade

    Hi all,
When I bought my 2008 MK5 GTI I optioned it with the RNS-510. This was the I think the first batch of units as they only started to offer these instead of the older rcd models.
Well at the time it was a good unit, but it lacked bluetooth and all the fancy whiz bang stuff that's available now.
Plus I'm having issues where audio cuts out when I switch radio stations and it requires me to turn off the motor and wait a few minutes for it to regain any audio at all.

I wanted bluetooth for a while, but having factory bluetooth added by the dealer was going to cost me over 2k at the time and they were pushing the aftermarket parrot units.

Was looking at the new pioneer and alpine units and they do look miles ahead of what the model I have can do. I was thinking of getting one of these to replace rns-510.

Does anyone know if these units fully integrate into the MFD? Specifically navigation, I find that very useful!

Any other options? I've seen the ans/dns models but not too sure about the quality and support/features they offer compared to the pioneer/alpine units.

    Thanks!

ANS/DNS seem to get a good rap here.
The Zenec unit i tried was functionally very good but the ui was more "techy" than luxury so i swapped it for a RNS510.

I just installed a new Zenec ze2015 to my Amarok. Closest looking aftermarket unit to the rns510. You retain all steering wheel functions and mfd. Zenec has a bigger 7" screen and BT built in. Very happy with mine.

I've been considering an RNS unit but have also been looking at this:

          Alpine X008AU 8 DVD/CD/USB/Bluetooth Advanced Navi Station

I've been told the Alpine units have direct MFD integration

Yeah that's the one i've been looking at too. I think they have phone mfd integration but not sure about navigation.

The Zenec ones look just like the rns units in that they have the same features and nothing more. For that price other units pack a lot more features like mirror link, digital radio, apple car play/android auto for the new units, suna traffic updates.

I might go into a shop and ask but would like to hear first hand from someone who has these and how well they work
