  • Swapping RCD510 (5K003519) with premium RCD510 (5K003519A) unit coding required?

Hi guys hope to get some advise from some members here - I am wanting to swap my existing RCD510 (Part 5K003519) with a premium RCD510 (Part 5K003519A) to enable phone contacts to be displayed on the unit via the 9w7 bluetooth module. Will this be a straight plug n play thing to do or will I need the unit need to be coded?

The current RCD510 (Part 5K003519) is already coded to work with everything including the 9w7 bluetooth modul. Btw the swap is for a Passat R36. Any advise would be much appreciated!

    Hi mate,

I'm in the same position and have just got a 190B unit, going from the 190. I've been told it will just drop in but you have to code any of the auxiliary modules mdi, reverse camera etc.

do you know of anyone with the vcds cable / software in the area? I'm in Doreen

plug and play...but for reverse camera people might need to be coded if not come out of a rvc car...try it first. will work fine straight up with 9w7 but just other stuff might need vcds

Thanks for the tip. What exactly does the mdi unit offer in the glovebox? And will the aux plug in the centre console need to be coded in or is it a standard fitting?

MDI is for either USB or IPOD connection. AUX should work as its factory....no point having MDI if you have 9w7 as just BT stream your music....

Your radio will work but coding of the new RCD510 will more than likely be required to get the best out of it. The new 190 A and B units have two additional bits in their long coding and unlike the older units support specific vehicle outlines if you have optical parking sensors fitted and custom sound frequency settings.
I have fitted a number of second hand B units that have mostly come out of Amaroks and in the example below i had to recode the unit to fit in a Tiguan as follows

            Address 56:5K0 035 190 A recoded (Long Coding) from 00000400020016 to 0100040004040C (01357/011/00200)

            This is because
            1. The Amarok does not normally have MDI/AUX plug fitted
            2. Their speaker configuration is different to normal VW Golfs Jetta Passats Tiguans etc
3.vehicle outline (last bit) needs to be changed to the new car outline when parking sensors are active.
            4. If you have a baseline RVC installed you will also need to code this in.

The below is the 7 bit Long Coding showing various options associated with the 190 A and B units.
The options in bold are not available on the older 190 units

            ;

BTW the SD card reader is substantially faster than the older units and I have loaded all my music onto a 16Gb SD card and rarely use either the BT audio streaming or the MDI interface

              Thanks for the reply boys.

Installed the 190B into the vehicle today and after a call to VW to get the unlock code (one supplied was incorrect) was a 5 minute job. Only issues I have now are:

              1. BT track info and BT steering wheel control not available as yet. Been advised I have to update the BT module to Rev J and above which I am in the process of organsing.
              2. Have lost my aux input (in centre console 3.5mm plug) as an option on the media menu.
              3. Unsure of the MDI status as I don't really use it anyways.
              4. The optical parking graphic is now an Amarok.

From what I've read all of these problems can be rectified with coding??

Is there anyone in Melbourne that has the know how and hardware to help me set this unit up??

              Thanks guys

Check out the VCDS section on the forum, there is a posting listing all the members who have VCDS and what they charge which is normally a carton!
As I said in my post earlier issues 2,3 and 4 should be solved by recoding the unit by changing the first and last bytes. It may be worth while to put your old unit back in get a scan of the original coding as the first 5 bytes should be the same only the last 2 needed to be coded. What car do you have?

Your coding for the last 2 bytes will be 0011

                        Thanks mate. Appreciate your help!

Bit off topic, but do you know if its possible to change the default setting of the stop/start function through VCDS. Drives me insane having to turn it off every time I start the car. Ideally would like it to be off by default!

It can be done but Ross Tech won't say how as it will make the vehicles non compliant as far emmissions are concerned in the USA and for that matter the rest of the world when and if it becomes enforced.

I read somewhere if you change the voltage settings parameters in the module and increase the voltage value for the battery it wont switch the engine off as it then thinks the battery charge is insufficient.

Kind of used to it now as both the Tiguan and my 320d have it and I must admit the BMW system is very quick at starting the car especially at a busy intersection. I have also noticed both cars (assembled at the same time same mileage and driver) switch on and off differently on the same route but it may be because they have different batteries and the modules are configured accordingly.
