  • Speed Alert APP NSW

The NSW government has released a free speed alert for smart phones ,and it works very good , tell when your over the limit and the street your driving on works through your GPS ,vocal alerts .

‎Speeding is the most common contributing factor to road deaths in NSW. Speed Adviser is a driver's aid designed to reduce speeding and save lives. Using the GPS capability of your iPhone, the Speed Adviser app monitors your location and speed, and alerts you via visual and audible warnings if you ex…

Hmmm yeah great idea NSW government. ANOTHER thing to distract moronic drivers while on the road.

I do this weird thing, not sure if anyone else does it too? I look at the street signs! And immediately I know what speed to do. And other handy things, I can also obtain basic directions, know where to park, if I can be in that lane etc etc. ohh another less-than-important one; know if I need to stop or not!

    Too much sarcasm?

10,000 motorists got booked for speeding over the Australia day week end, if they had this app running it just might of saved them double demerits, 6pionts plus and a large fine

How do you know the speed by looking at the street signs , around my way there are many school zones so how do you tell the 40KPH and the 50 KPH??

You want to analysis this app before using it
It could be sending data back enabling decisions on where to place speed cameras for most effect

how do I know by looking at the sign? generally they are only double, and on occasion triple, digit numbers. not difficult

how many of those 10000 people were booked by fixed cameras? again, there are signs in front of the cameras (in NSW) so this proves that people are absent minded when driving. ie, dangerous. now, they want you to use an app to 'assist' you?

as for martin's comment. that wouldn't surprise me in the least!

Ok, there is no information about you or your car that you enter. You are asked if you have a full car or truck licence, but you do not enter any information about yourself.

It does not give you a continuous readout of your speed, but checking it against my satnav and AlerteGPS unit, it is at +5 km/h that it tells you "Too fast, <speed limit>".

Now there is a flaw in that if your phone is paired to your car's Bluetooth, you do not get any sound off the speakers in the phone. If you do not have it paired, you get the announcements whenever the limit changes (or it thinks it has).

The other thing is that it leaves the screen on all the time. When I had my DSG recall done, I tried it on my trip to the dealer. The trip from Blacktown to the dealer in Penrith and back to work in Girraween, a fully charged phone had only 40% battery left.

I sent some feedback on the sound and display being on all the time.

If you do not have a satnav that knows the speed zones and school zones, then it is handy.

It's not a privacy concern that I have

If they get a large number of units speeding through a specific section of road they can use that (anonymous) data to make good decisions on where maximum revenue can be earned
