  • Help with Bluetooth Audio streaming

Hello fellow Golf "Dubbers". Have had my golf comfortline with DA pack for 3 weeks and love it.
The BT is excellent - no problems.
Audio streaming via BT is also great.
However Whilst I can play tracks, go forward and back no problems - I can't get a playlist up on the screen.
I don't want to have to pick up the phone to select a track.
    Can anyone help ?

Limitation of BT streaming guys, no car can do it over bluetooth AFAIK.

To do playlist selection, use the MDI cable

Edit: Whoops, Golf7 doesn't have MDI

I know in the new Hyundai i30 when BT audio streaming it will display the song title/artist/filename on the head unit... Believe this to be the same for the Toyota Corolla too.

Why VW haven't done so yet is frustrating...

Dam those German engineers who spend all their time and money into producing a good car instead of spending it all into getting your song titles, artists and filename on a simple screen. God how could they not keep up with those simple Hyundai and Toyota folk who would rather do this than fix their poor quality cars, shocking.

Have a look at the earlier thread on iPod compatibility - similar problems and limitations with the bluetooth connection. I found the only solution was to put all my music on SD card. A pain in the backside but for me, the only workable option considering the limitations of bluetooth.

VW units do that, you can also play/pause/now/next. What the op was talking about is playlist selection

New MAzda 6 owners are having the same issues.

Are playlists dependent on a industry standard? If not, that's the reason you can't control them via bluetooth streaming.

I think it's A2DP for music streaming and to control the device its:

                    Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
This profile is designed to provide a standard interface to control TVs, Hi-fi equipment, etc. to allow a single remote control (or other device) to control all of the A/V equipment to which a user has access. It may be used in concert with A2DP or VDP.
It has the possibility for vendor-dependent extensions.
AVRCP has several versions with significantly increasing functionality:
1.0—Basic remote control commands (play/pause/stop, etc.)
1.3—all of 1.0 plus metadata and media-player state support
The status of the music source (playing, stopped, etc.)
Metadata information on the track itself (artist, track name, etc.).
1.4—all of 1.0 and 1.3 plus media browsing capabilities for multiple media players
Browsing and manipulation of multiple players
Browsing of media metadata per media player, including a "Now Playing" list
                    Basic search capabilities
1.5—all of 1.0, 1.3 and 1.4 plus specification corrections and clarifications to absolute volume control, browsing and other features

Yeah that was my angle, there is no standard playlist functionality in the a2dp/avrcp protocol. VW is very standards based when it comes to their infotainment integration.

Don't buy an mdi cable for the aus mk7 as they don't have mdi. Sd card or USB only.

                            iOS7 + BlueTooth

I'm wondering have any fellow Golf7 owners found since upgrading to iOS7 that the BT Audio playback is noticeably more "jumpy" than it was in iOS6?

I often use the Hamish & Andy app to replay the podcast. In iOS6 once I press play it just flows along without "hiccups" in the playback. You know where like the audio stutters or pauses for a millisecond and then continues on?

In iOS6 it happened only when I had competiting instructions like say Google Maps doing a voiceover at the same time it might create hiccups.

In iOS7 however I've noticed that even when its just H&A playing that it definitely stutters from time to time. Little millisecond pauses here and there.
I would definitely say I find iOS7 BT to be less stable than it was in iOS6. Bigger question is this a BT software fix on Apples part over time or is it on the VW end that they need to update their head unit?

I'm thinking Apple end as BT is a protocol so....doesn't really need updating.

I also listed to hamish and andy podcasts and haven't had any issues with ios7.

Are you downloading the podcast before you start listening? It might be downloading while you're listening
