Some form of protection is tripping in the amp which requires the power down to reset. Has it always done this? What brand/model is the amp?

It is unlikely that the enclosure has anything to do with the issue - at worst, an oversized sealed or poorly matched ported enclosure could lead to the sub driver bottoming out.

        sub 10" cuts out

Like above, sounds like amp protection. Try turning the amp gain control down a bit at the same volume

I was going to suggest protection mode as well. What was your amp rated at in RMS? Ditto for the sub. I have a feeling it's significantly lower than 2400.

Additionally, you might want to check and make sure you've grounded properly. Sometimes you might even need to rough the spot up with sandpaper so that there's a good connection to the chassis.

Is the amp hot to touch at all straight after it cuts out?
