  • how to install headunit

Hey guys I have just bought a new headunit for my polo as the stock one did not have ipod connectivity, I am determined to do it myself as the guys at my local autobarn are tools. I purchased harnesses for both the vehicle and the aftermarket headunit (kenwood kdc-u556bt) and all hoocked up nicely, however the is one wire that is not plugged into the harness- the 12v ignition. would someone be able to suggest where I wire this as I don't have or know how to use a multimeter and my friend who is okay with this sort of stuff could only find 12v straight off the battery, not accessory. someone else I know suggested the fuses in the drivers footwell but the ignition wire will not reach to there. could anyone help? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Look harder, standard units turn on somehow with a switching wire

you need to swap the "ignition" with the "constant 12v" on the harness, a lot of them are set up incorrectly.

Where do you source the harnesses from?

You will get more response if you post in the Polo section for your model. Or check for threads in that section.

With a 9N3 Polo, most people hunt down the cigarette lighter wire and tap into that.

thanks, I sourced the harness from ebay. with regards to the cigarette lighter I spoke to my sisters boyfriend and that is what he suggested also. I am just confused as the stock unit had to be getting accessory power from somewhere, I just can't find it!. thanks for the suggestions, I will post in the polo section.

Swainey is right this is the case for a lot of veins. Have done a couple recently and have had to swap the two. Just put a pioneer unit in a bora. Was very simple as the harness plugged straight in apart from swapping the wires over

It had me stumped for a week when I put mine in, seems that generic ISO harnesses have reversed connections, maybe this is VW's way of preventing people from installing h/u's without the knowledge even though it's a simple swap over. As I've learnt, those Germans are crafty in making things hard to pull apart haha
