Unfortunately none of the resets helped. I am bringing the car to VW soon.

I assume you've gone for a 10+ minute drive recently as that can calibrate it and fix it (I've had to do it when installing the RNS for the first time and following one particular firmware upgrade).

Otherwise you could try buying an antenna for the RNS that sits inside the dashboard via ebay.

I'm not sure a replacement antenna would do anything for him Ryan. The RNS is "seeing" the satellites but not tracking them, the antenna is showing connected in the secret menu, and the RNS was factory fitted, so it has a sharkfin antenna - no obscuration of signal.

What about if the cable is disconnected at the antenna end under the roof? Would the RNS still show it as "connected" because the cable is connected at the back of the unit?

If he didnt disturb that end it would be highly unlikely to disconnect on its own More likely a problem with the headunit.

Maybe power was still connected when it was being worked on and upset it somehow

That "he" would be me, correct? As it is my car and my unit. No, I didnt touch that end.
And it took one month, after the 9w7 unit installation and firmware upgrade, for the GPS to stop working. So everything worked fine for a month.

Saying things shouldn't break never solves problems though Gotta try all possibilities to isolate exactly where the problem lies. I've heard of antenna stop working before (granted they were retrofitted though) and they're not all that expensive/difficult to replace (although you wouldn't be using the sharkfin location again).

But of course if it's a factory fitted item and you're under warranty, let the dealer take care of it.

Yeah sorry wrote it and changed some and didnt realise it was you I was replying to till later.

Sounds like either something has come loose or software has got its knickers in a knot

Strange that it can see the satellites but not lock onto them.

Have you tried a complete power down and restart (disconnect battery for a few minutes?)

I would imagine the connected/disconnected state for the antenna is a simple loop test. If the circuit is whole, then the antenna is "connected". So if it was disconnected at either end, the circuit would be broken.

No haven't. I will try this and if didnt work then I will try to downgrade the fw to 3810.

Will the car ask for a code or something if I disconnect and reconnect the battery?

Can be. But it can also just measure the resistance and that means a disconnected antenna would not make a big change in the measurement. Or the measurement is just a simple resistance YES or NO, i.e. it would only measure if cable is connected at the back of the unit or not. Just guessing.

                                Um...just putting my experience in....

Had the dealership change the battery in my R32 a few months ago. D*ck-heads didn't hook up a standby power source, so everything in the car powered down and lost connection.

Installed new battery, powered up...Ba-Bow..>RNS required a code. Head Tech came running out explaining that the internet connection to Wolfsburg was down and they couldn't tap into the factory archives to see what the code for the unit was. I said "well, you'd be stuffed anyway, because the RNS is not OEM, had it installed about a year ago - do yourself a favour and have a look inside the owners manual folder...there's a card there that may interest you"

*sigh*...seems we have to do so much for dealerships these days.

So..moral of the story is...yes, I believe you will need the code.
