4120 firmware install on RNS 510 "A" unit

Hi all,

Have an RNS 510 (1T0 035 680A) in my 2008 R36 that I upgraded to firmware 3810.

Looking to upgrade it to 4120 and just wondering if I can use "Firmware 4120 for RNS510 - 90:5:5 partitions, VCDS shouldn't be needed (still being tested)." firmware in this Stickies thread:

There's no mention if it applies to a particular unit or if it can be used on all units

1T0 035 680 A is only listed under Firmware 38xx in that thread but as you probably know, the part number changes to 1T0 035 680 D once you upgrade to 3810.

So does that mean I can use the Firmware 412x on my unit? Or is it only for "real" 1T0 035 680 D units?

All units change to read as a D Yours looks like it will appear as a B but they still are what they were Im not an expert but if you read through the thread I think you should only go to the 38xx There is not a lot of advantage going further and you could brick it Read posts 31 and 34 in the linked thread and you will have your answer

I think 3xxx is as far as you can officially go with an A unit.

With 4020 I think someone hacked into the CD contents and changed something to make a usable copy for 'A' devices. This wasn't done for future versions due to the workload, small amount of 'A' users here, and the slow CPU speed of those models struggling to keep up iirc.

I have 4020 now running on my A unit. No difference in features to 3810 (a much more stable platform).

So...3810/V6 maps/POI and 3-partition HDD and you're in business.
