  • Head Unit change - Audience to Bolero

Hey guys, looking for guidance again. I just purchased a head unit and have been doing my research. I just wanted to clarify something. I've been reading up on known issues around power drain for older models with newer age head units. This is due to a CAN-BUS unit that requires changing or modification?

Firstly (and excuse my ignorance) what's a CAN-BUS and what is its purpose? Secondly, I'm happy to do the install myself (I've done many a tinkering with other cars) but is there other things to look out for (other than disconnection of the battery) I've read also about recoding (why is this?)

    Appreciate your help guys.

I can't comment on the power drain but the CAN-bus is just a network as oppsosed to hardwired.

The recoded will be required depending on what systems the headunit sees (or what systems see it). Someone with VCDS will be able to help (I think the cable you need is commonly called VAG-Com and there are links to it in other posts.
