  • RVC Issue - Camera not popping out completely

    Hey guys

My reverse camera doesn't seem to want to work

When I put it in "R' the camera doesn't seem to come out all the way... Maybe less than half of the badge pops out . the display on the RNS works but it only shows what the camera can see, and since its only pops out less than half of the distance, it doesn't show much, as can be seen in the photo. The bottom half on the screen is showing the boot and the little sliver appearing on the screen is the camera showing what it can, due to it not being able to protrude out

Anyone else have this same problem with the reverse camera being "stuck" and not having it pop out all the way? What's the fix?

is your vw badge properly clipped in, I.e does your boot handle operate fully when opening?

yep. no problems operating the boot...the boot still opens like it should but it seems like the flap beneath the badge where the camera lives doesnt pop out all the way, which in turn wouldnt pop out th ebadge all the way....

the little camera is meant to come out, open the flap, and the opened flap then opens vw badge, thus being able to see...but for whatever reason it seems like the camera is stuck and cant push itself out all the way?

Perhaps while its out in reverse (Fun fact you can turn off the engine in dsg cars while in reverse but still keep that handbrake on!). Have a look and see if any grime got in the unit - especially the sides. Also see if you can get someone to engage reverse while you're behind and see if you hear any clicks or the camera motor struggling.

Was it a factory fitted unit?

Ah cool so if I engage reverse and then turn the engine off, the camera will still be engaged?

Yes it was a factory fitted unit

Car was purchased Dec 2010 so it should be under warranty, no?
