Giving up trying to get a new golf for the price i want, in the colour i want, with the specs i want. I'm thinking i will just buy a cheaper on and fit an rns510 after. Is this the standard stereo? Meaning i will need lots of bits i.e. rns, bluetooth module, aerials, mic, rvc, etc, etc....
Man I'm so close I can almost taste it. I'm down to two cars: a base model manual or a slightly used demo with all the fruit, DSG, Sat Nav, Leather. Problem is while I was set on the manual I'm now leaning towards the DSG after reading and watching a heap of reviews. $5,000 difference in price though which woud go a long way to putting Sat Nav, etc in the base one. But it's hard to find a DSG, with Sat nav in my colour/price range.
Just be sure to test the DSG out in stop/start traffic and uphill and look for any shudders that might indicate a bad clutch pack/mechatronics that needs to be replaced under dealer warranty if it's a 7 speed one. 6 speed DSG is older tech and smoother, but costs a few $hundred more to service at 60,000kms.
I hear ya. I didn't know that about the 7 speed. I though the DSG issues had been sorted from 2010 onwards. I'll definitely try to flog it on the test drive.
I think from MY11 onwards they've been ok, or no-one's mentioned the problem yet. Rarely a problem with high speed driving, just start/stop changes between 1st and 2nd gear where the car in front moves unpredictably.
That's an RCD-300 from a Golf 5 AFAIK. You can fit an RNS-510 but you may run into battery drain issues - all depends on what version CAN-Bus you have, take a look here:
That is NOT RCD-300, that is RCD-500 6cd mp3 player
My mistake, didn't pay attention to the buttons. Either way, battery issues remain the same, you have to check your CAN-Bus if you want to fit an RNS-510.
I would say no. A good stepping stone would be to upgrade to the rcd-510. These can be picked up for between $200 -$250. Pretty much look and function like the RNS-510, but without the sat nav and hard disk. It would also be easier to sell the rcd-510 when you are ready to upgrade to the sat nav.
