  • Factory alarm or aftermarket

    Hi guys

What's the difference between the factory and aftermarket alarm? which one is better?

    cheers

From memory, factory alarm is an immobiliser and has motion sensors on the inside and separate horn (beep).

There's a button on the B pillar to temporarily turn off the sensors, when you lock the car with kids and pets inside.

But most important thing ... it's integrated with the existing key's button. No extra controller to carry around.

Use to be a standard option when you bought the top spec Golf (GTI), but not anymore!

According to the current Golf brochure, it's standard on the Golf GTI, GTD and R; optional on all other Golfs except the 77TSI. This is separate to the immobiliser, which is standard on all Golfs (and probably all VWs).

The alarm also has a tilt sensor.

If it's less than $600, it's probably better to have a proper, wired in factory unit than an aftermarket unit which needs a bunch of wiring.

          HI all

          (2nd post!)

Waiting for the delivery of our Mk7 103!...

Qn: Is the genuine alarm from factory only or can itbe added prior to delivery? or if not is aftermarket just as good (any brand / fitters recommendation in Sydney?)...

Keen to hear from any other MK7 owners...

          Cheers

When a car (or house) alarm goes off these days, does anyone take any notice?

I would prefer the factory unit as an after market fitter can do a lot of damage and negate your warranty.
