  • Tiguan Canbus Gateway - Location???

Does anyone know where I can locate the CANBUS gateway in Tiguan?

Trying to install an Autopolar FIS+ unit and need to find the gateway connector.

Anyone replaced a gateway to solve power drain issues and can point me in the general direction/location?

I've tried looking in the hole under the wiper motor but couldn't see anything here. Happy to do some more digging if I know approximately where to look.

Could you try phoning a dealer and perhaps pretend to be a mechanic of some sort?

    Is there anything on erWin?
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

I think Transporter already looked on erWin but where it said to look was on the side of the footwell and I've had a look and couldn't locate it there. However he did also say that it wasn't always reliable and not even sure this was for a RHD model.

I think it's behind the glovebox, towards the centre of the dash.

Cool. I might go digging and see what I can find.

Just went in from behind the stereo and couldn't see anything from this way either.... hmmm

T20 Torx screws along the inner top edge, and the outer bottom edge. May be a couple more.

Be gentle removing it, as you may damage the glovebox lamp. When you can get at it, disconnect it, and remove it. Re-install it after you've put the glovebox back in.

You can always get one of those cheap USB borescopes off ebay to look around in hard to reach places. Eg.

Could it be under the steering column, if we're looking for a red plug?

I found this in a post on mytiguan re steering wheel retrofit.

The picture is taken with camera on the floor pointing directly up at the uncovered steering column.

There appears to be a red plug at the end or back of the steering wheel (i.e. centre far right in the pic).

But might be the SWCM plug perhaps!

Anyhow since you're ripping glove boxes out, might as well try here first before you head to the boot area next fisting for the G spot?

Tigger 73 if you are not in a hurry go onto ebay and source a Win Elsa users manual . It's about $20 and covers all the issues you have raised above

1.remove 5 torx screws (3 at top and 2 at the bottom)
2.unclip side panel by wedging upwards and then pulling out from rubber door seal
                      3. Wedge carefully out cubby hole light and unplug
                      4. Slide glove box out and then unclip rubber tube from air con to cool glove box
                      5. Unclip glove box light switch from the back of the glove box near the air con tube as discussed in step 4
                      6. Assembly is in reverse order.

I am not so sure about the CANbus gateway being located there. I do not have my laptop handy to check WinElsa I think it is somewhere on the drivers side. My logic would be to trace the wiring from the purple diagnostics socket as this links directly to it in the circuit diagrams

                          Eureka! Hit the jackpot.

Once I remove the glovebox it was staring me right in the face.

Thanks everyone for your assistance and ideas. I did go back to my fusebox and traced the wiring from the OBD port (purple connector under steering column) going off into a massive bundle of wires towards the centre console so I figured it had to be over on the left side.

Now to connect up the AutoPolar FIS+ Advanced.
                          Fun times ahead!!!

Fun times followed by interesting times in my case

I find that in normal driving I like using the real speed shown in the FIS page but when I'm on the open freeway I keep switching back to the incorrect display and setting cruise control to the compensated maximum speed limit. If I let myself work out the exact offset of the 'real' speed and the actual speed then it sort of defeats the purpose for me getting this device (and when you turn on cruise control while viewing the FIS menu you can still see the old speed at the bottom of the display where the odometer usually is).

OK Autopolar FIS+ Advanced unit is now installed and running (connects into the red CANBUS connector).

I still have to set up the various screens with diagnostic data, however here's what the default screen looks like in the MFD:

                              Parameters available in Tiguan are:

Nice to finally get it in and going - after organising a couple of group buys I had to wait until the 3rd shipment until there was one left for me

And before you ask I haven't played with the function for auto-dipping the mirrors in reverse gear. I've asked autopolar for a procedure to get this going, however the feature has to be supported in the ECU/hardware for it to work.
