  • WTB RCD or RNS510

Hey guys I am looking for a touch screen head unit for my 2012 VW Tiguan. I would prefer a newer "Mustard Plug" Bosch-type unit that will already support BT, MDI, DVC and OPC. I do not own a VCDS (yet) cable but I could buy one if the right unit at the right price comes up. I am in Vic and happy to pay for postage if need be.

    Thanks in advance

Really depends if you want sat nav. RNS will cost $500-$600 more. If you have the $ I would do it. Though I went RCD510 and spent the rest on other mods...

Actually the "notagti" was a free upgrade. Apart from the blu-tac which I already had lying around.

More talking RVC, Autopolar, Bluetooth, etc. You could pretty much get all that for the same price as paying for sat nav upgrade RCD510 to RNS510 - which is the way I've gone.

Otherwise you could put the $ towards a flappy paddle MFSW or maybe a Stage 1 engine tune.

        Decisions...

If you decide to go the RCD510 path I bought mine from volksweapon

He has another one for sale here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...510-79470.html

Recommended seller - great to deal with. They are genuine VW and legitimate. I know there's some concerns over units coming from Eastern Europe as to the original source of the parts, however volksweapon's units come from pre-delivery VW where the customer upgrades to a Sat Nav or other head unit.

The unit I got from him was an upgraded RCD510 "A" Bosch unit with the 26 pin RCD connector on the back.

If you're adding Bluetooth you just need to be careful re compatibility of head unit with BT and that you get all the features that you require working. If you do some searches there can be issues with older head units and newer BT not supporting all BT functions.

Thanks Tigger73, I think you just made up my mind for me. I don't really need a Satnav, I am more of a Melways (Street Directory) type guy, but if I had it there I would use it. I think saving the money for other things is a better option. I will have a chat to Volksweapon about his unit.

By the look of the thread it is a new unit so hopefully it will all work with what I have already.

I had a dealer fitted bluetooth (as opposed to factory fitted) and when I upgraded from RCD310 to RCD510 I found out it didn't support phonebook function on the MFD/RCD510. I could use the button on the steering wheel to answer a call and adjust volume but that was it. So I then upgraded the bluetooth unit as well.

Now I can make calls direct from RCD510, search contacts on RCD510 and MFD (though I think RCD510 is easier) as well as having some nice presets on the RCD510. This was the biggest feature I was looking for out of upgrading the head unit/BT. Now I leave my phone in the boot and run everything through the RCD510 (saves getting caught looking at your phone).

Good luck with doing the upgrade. There's a few youtube installation videos that I found pretty helpful - shows you how to take apart the dash and remove the old stereo.

You'd better be good or Father Christmas may take it back (or sell it on ebay)!
