  • Very Specific Questions - RCD510 with Bluetooth Module on Mk6 GTI Golf

    Hi all

I know there is a thread that covers the Bluetooth items but I have scanned it several times and can't find clear answers so I would like to ask some specific questions relating to operation of an RCD510 (*not RNS510*) with the 9W7 Bluetooth module from Poland (7P6035730L):

Is it possible to have Voice Command enabled for telephone calling. If you have this working in your car can you let me know please. Especially if you know what coding and/or cabling is required to make it work.

Is it possible to upgrade the firmware in an RCD510. If you have done this yourself can you let me know please.

Does anyone have a fix for the garbled address book - when using the RCD display to look up names in the phone book, it finds them, but when you press the button to dial, the number includes a lot of other characters and it won't dial. when using the steering wheel controls and the multifunction screen, everything works fine.

    Thanks....

Sorry can't help you here. Don't have the voice command function/feature and haven't tried software upgrades (not even sure if there are firmware upgrades around). I have a new RCD510 and have just connected up RVC.

I can access my address book either through the RCD510 or through the MFD. I can dial using either. I generally prefer to search on the RCD510 as it's a lot easier. No problems with garbled address book and I have close to 1,000 contacts (mostly work ones) so I don't think the number of contacts is an issue.

Have you tried other phones? It may be an issue with reading the contacts from your phone but it's strange why the MFD works but RCD has issues.

Voice control is only for RNS510 afaik

Firmware upgrades would technically be possible but we've never seen an upgrade released.

Garbled address book seems to be caused by the newest 9W7 units used in conjunction with an (older) RCD510 from what we've seen so far. Either exchange for an older 9W7 revision or get the RNS510 are the only known solutions for now.

When I bought my 9w7 unit I tried to match the age of the 9w7 to my RCD510 so I didn't go with the latest "K" 9w7 I went with a slightly older "F" version and had no issues.

I have a 2009 TDI Comfortline Golf and have just fitted an RCD510 from a 2012 Amorok and a 9W7 BT Kit form an Ebay seller in Syd (5K0 035 730 D) Phonebook works fine in the headunit and MFD and am about to code it for Voice control shortly.

BT Streaming also works fine with MFD displaying all info and ability to skip tracks etc

Will let you know if I get it working in the next few days!

If you google Voice control RCD510 there is a youtube video showing it working and there is links on what coding is required

          Cheers

            Great work 80XIN.

So it looks like all you have to do is a quick VCDS change in 16 - Steering Wheel Module. Select Bit 3 - "MultiFunction Steering Wheel (MFSW) with Push-to-Talk (PTT) Button installed" in the long coding.

Will give it a go when I get hold of a VCDS cable.

So you can have either a mute button or voice control; what's more convenient?

Always had mute, but then decided for a change a few months ago and I've had good success using voice control for calling people in my phonebook (although I have to say Call Lastname, Firstname on Mobile - haven't been able to switch to Firstname Lastname).

Even had good success using voice control for Navigation, dictating the address, etc. If it doesn't understand it just asks you to spell it. Might take a little bit of getting used to but if you speak to it the way you'd expect a robot to speak to you (i.e. I say Burwick instead of Berwick) it's great as your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Muting now means I just hold down the volume key.

If you've got VCDS it can't hurt to try both.

Fire up VCDS and change the Telephone module coding - click through each and in one you'll see something like Address Book Order - Change it from Lastname to Firstname and all your hearts desires will come true.

Also, be sure to delete the paring (adaptation - erase user profiles for lazyman) and then delete from phone and re-pair.

I had my contacts displayed last name first which annoyed me, I was browsing through the MFD menu and found you can change that easy!

It's under phone-settings-phone book-list then select surname or first name!

                      No need for VCDS

Guys, this is great info and I really appreciate all the help. I have another forum member helping with the coding so will give it a try when convenient.

BTW I ordered the Bluetooth unit from Poland and selected an older "J" model (to try and reduce any incompatibility issues. I think they thought they were helping me by sending the latest "L" version instead. At least all of the streaming media functions work (and audio quality is surprisingly good when using MOG)

Have already played with that setting and it didn't help.

Bugger.. Why does there have to be so many variations with this stuff! I think I was just lucky with my choice of headunit and BT module
Fingers crossed I get the voice control function working, I'm not holding my breath

I tried to enable voice control on my RCD510 and 9W7 but it didn't work. Turning bit 1 to ON in module 16 disables the mute button, but doesn't enable voice control. Tapping the button or holding it down does nothing.

I found a setting in module 77 (telephone) that enables voice control as well, but no matter what I set it to, nothing happens.

                              Oh well.
