You can get the custom firmware 40xx installed on your CC or install the Berto VIM file. Pls verify your RNS version 1st.

I've updated mine recently with the custom firmware & I've got access to VIM for my kid (not me) to watch cartoons.

Hey, I tried finding the secret menu but it didn't want to work! Will give it another go.

Based on the year model of your Passat and if it's a stock unit, then it should be ok to just install the Berto VIM mentioned above.

However the better thread for all your RNS510 mod/upgrade needs is here:

From memory, the VIM CD also enables secret menu.

If not, I think I do have the VIM version that does on my PC.

If you were in SA I could do it for you in less than 5 minutes, without installing anything or removing the head unit.

              RNS510 Version C?

              Does it state firmware?

That says Version C and firmware 1300.

But that's what's on the disk you loaded into your unit for this pic above.

Please clarify whether this is the readout from the Berto VIM CD?

Nevertheless, it's got nothing to do with what version your unit is.
Unfortunately, inserting a FW disk does not act like a diagnostic tool.
In other words, that is not a readout from your unit.

Anyhow, assuming it is the Berto VIM CD,what happens if you do follow through with this update and click OK?

                Have you tried it?

Realised your right. Put in the bertoli vim cd and it went through the process and voila it worked. Vim works. The added bonus... Secret menu works and it's a b unit? (will have to put up a screen shot)

You really can't tell what your unit is without VCDS.

Even under secret menu, it will show the default unit version normally associated with that particular FW installed.

For example, the below screen shot suggests it's a D unit, but it's definitely not!

If yours is really a B unit, then the top right hand corner button will not be a 'star', but a speaker icon next to the letter 'i" instead:

Basically all C unit and up (with LED screen) have the 'star' button instead.

So much easier to tell by looking at this particular button!
