I got refund from Apple Store this afternoon. I tried to upgrade MDI's firmware, but it showed doesn't need to.
It's inconvenient that the only iPhone 5 adapter that works with the myriad of aftermarket pre-IPhone 5 stuff out there is in most instances too wide to fit into the new phone without having to take a protective case off.

I've checked the CableJive site, but nothing in the way of a dockXtender for the iPhone 5 yet. I've sent them a message asking if there's anything in the pipeline. I'll post the response here.

Just thought I'd add my two cents here, I bought an adaptor off eBay that didn't work at all with my MDI. But I then bought the official Apple adaptor and it works perfectly fine on my 2012 Polo. Lesson? Don't cheap out, but the Apple product and you shouldn't have a problem. Having said that I'll still buy the Volkswagen Lightning MDI cable when it comes out.

Is there one coming out? I'm hoping with the Mk7 there's a more elegant solution than the MDI box.

I've been told by VW salespeople that VW are working on an MDI cable for iphone 5... but who can trust a salesperson? I should know i used to be one

Just sucks that the cable is in the glovebox so I cant use satnav on my phone while using MDI.

Bought the official apple Lightning to 30pin cable today, plugged it into my VW MDI 30pin ipod cable and it all works perfect... I can even stream pandora through it and it displays the song details on RNS510 and MFD...

Rip of for $45, but at least it works, also has the side benefit of charging my iPhone.
