  • I am likely to purchase the ANS-810 soon. I am wondering if there is a definitive owners manual that is on the web that I could download or even just read online?

    Paul.

I wish - everything has been trial by error for me. Makes me wish I lived in AUS

I made the purchase today and look forward to the installation. It appears I have to order the dual connector fakra adapter if I want to have both AM and FM radio reception. Can the US users that have recently done this install confirm that this is the right adapter? I want to go ahead and get that ordered ASAP so I have it when the ANS-810 arrives.

          Paul.

You can get a pdf file of the user manual from your dealer.

I ordered directly from Audiosource. I was under the impression that there was minimal documentation that comes with the unit. Can anyone confirm that a manual is included?

                Paul.

                  • Where are you US folks getting your dual fakra adapters? Could someone put up a link?

Also, is the blue wire referred to earlier different from the antenna wire?

                    thx

I ordered Amazon.com: Audi VW Volkswagen Radio Dual Fakra Antenna Adapter For Diversity Systems: Car Electronics it fit my Jetta Sportwagen, appears to have improved FM reception, and added AM reception in my Jetta Sportwagen.

There is a blue power antenna lead on the antenna adapter, and one of the harnesses that attaches between the CANBUS and the ANS-810. You need to connect these two together. The dual fakra adapter replaces the single adapter that comes with the unit, and has its own blue lead.

                          • Now for the big news.

Audiosources is releasing a new generation of its unit, and I am hopeful to receive a test unit soon.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support and feedback up to this point. I met with Audiosources in their headquarters in China and had a long and thorough discussion with them, and they highly value the feedback we provide to them from here. As a manufacturer their main business is selling to resellers, the vast majority of which are unable to provide any useful feedback back to them since they just want to sell the unit and be done with it.

They have heard and been considering all the feedback we have given. The reason that some of them are taking so long to implement is not because they can't do it - believe me they are a very capable bunch at Audiosources. The main issue has been the hardware limitation. Quick example: things like MFD display and speed sensitive volume etc will require constant polling and communication with the CAN-Bus to keep information up to date. Every new piece of information is a new strain on the CPU and RAM and this needs to be performed a lot of the time simultaneously with navigation software. Now consider the fact that iGo Primo itself recommends 128MB of RAM to run. That's not to say there's no room for improvement on the current units, but new hardware will open up many more possibilities.

I can tell you at this point in time that the new generation unit will have 1.2Ghz dual core Cortex A9 CPU with 512MB of RAM - enough juice to power a smartphone. The unit will still run WinCE as it is more mature and stable in the head unit industry than Android, but it will have a very cool mirroring function when connected with Android phones (that is, full mirror of your phone including touch screen controls, so your head unit effectively becomes your phone). It will also have OEM style connection in the back - no more adapters, and this also means it will use the factory FAKRA antenna connection and therefore eliminate all radio reception issues. Beyond that there are also some very exciting features that I wouldn't even have dreamed of previously coming to the new unit, some of which are far beyond the reach of even the factory RNS-510. And yes, this is on top of virtually everything everyone have been requesting being realised in the new unit - proper music library and browsing / playback system, fuller MFD integration, speed sensitive volume, and much more So far though, this is all that I can reveal.

Unlike the original plan, the current generation of ANS series units will not be discontinued, and will continue to be sold as a cheaper alternative for those not looking for advanced media capabilities. There has also been a reassessment at Audiosources and the current generation units will continue to be supported and updated with new features alongside the new unit. Even as we speak, new changes are about to be rolled out on the current units, including a revamped door open menu that will show a lot more than just door status, and a new trip recorder function. Preview of the new door open menu below (sorry about the size):

To reflect these changes, the current units have prices reduced to $550 for the ANS-810 and $540 for the ANS-510. The new generation, with expected release in June, will be $150-$200 more expensive. To remove any doubt, the current older generation units will continue to be supported and developed in the future and will NOT be abandoned. It will simply be the budget alternative. I will continue to sell and support the current generation units even long after the new generation is released - the new generation is not a replacement but a new advanced model, like the Golf R is to the GTI if you will.

Due to this new arrangement and continued support for the current ANS units, the firmware will not be finalised but instead continued to be improved upon. I will therefore be offering my $25 support subscription again for those who did not buy the unit from me.

Thanks again for everyone's support, and stay tuned for more information

                            • Glad to see you back DkN,

Let me know how to pay your subscription fee as I need a few firmware updates. I just bought my ANS610, looks like i should have waited just a few more weeks to see this new model

                              • Just my luck. I ordered an ANS-810 last night....should have waited. I don't like the notion that the firmware on my newly purchased unit won't get any further upgrades in the future...sigh
