I have a 2011 mk 6 Golf Comfortline and have noticed that my dash lights fade on different occasions and for no readily apparent reason (at least to me). It is not a frequent problem (especially as I only use the car say twice a week) but I've noticed it happen ocasionally driving north along Wattle Street at Ultimo in Sydney. It only happens sometimes and not others. Does this happen to others?

Does you car have Auto sensing headlights? eg AUTO on headlight switch?
you are then probably seeing a feature of the instrument illumination.
My Mk5 jetta does this. If I have my headlight switch set to Off, my guage Needles are always lit on (Red), but my instrument numbering etc is not on.
Guage Numbering does change to ON due to quick exterior lighting changes, eg when going under tree covered roads, especially into carparks or into a tunnel. well today i found out that if there is direct sunlight on the sensor the dash dials turn on. eg when you are driving into the sun... obviously this helps you see the dails due to oncomming glare\( O ) o\====(\X/)=TDI=/o ( O )/ 2011 Jetta Mk5 125TDI - Squidly
