  • Manual scale on RNS510/Columbus Nav

Well, I've had it for nearly three years and didn't realize until yesterday that the scale of the map can be controlled by turning the right knob.

I like to leave it at 100m when navigating in the city because the auto zoom function annoys me. 100m was difficult to set on the sliding scale along the bottom of the screen due to it being so touchy.

Wife wanted to turn down the radio and turned the right knob, and bingo, scale changes.

Yeh, I also found this by accident. Wife wanted to advance a song track and thought the right button would do it whist in Map mode. Glad it didn't, as the zoom function is much more useful, especially when zooming out to find a sneaky shortcut when stuck in traffic.

You want to shut my wife up? Good luck. I've been trying for 25 years.

When the nav voice is talking use the volume buttons on the steering wheel (or go into Settings, or is it Tone).

Or if you are too slow, use the repeat button and then have your finger ready to adjust the volume.

Great tip. Much better than the on screen zoom.

Also didn't know that pressing the RH knob repeats the last instruction from "the woman"...

No, I don't think pressing the right knob will repeat the instruction, if you press the "i" button to the right of the DVD slot, that will repeat the instruction.

I think it depends what unit you have, if you have the later revision units (C/D/E/F), the ‘i’ is replaced by the star button. In this case hitting that right knob does indeed repeat the last voice instruction.
