USB memory stick and iPod are perfectly ok left plugged in.
That will not drain car battery.
I believe charging circuit is dead when ignition is off.

Slightly iff topic, I personally don't like leaving iPhone/iPod on charge all time. I've seen it kill the iPhone battery.
But all nimh/ Lion batteries only have limited (c.400) recharge cycles, so either way you're screwed unless you accept that every battery has limited life.

That goes for car battery as well I guess but that's a couple of years, though what BlueMotion does to that is anyone's guess.... Different thread!

I had a iPod which I plugged permanently in my Mini Cooper S for 4 years and it is still going strong. In fact my son now has it permanently wired into his MK3. So it has definitely covered more than 400 charge cycles.

Besides, it doesn't really need the iPod battery if its hooked up to the cars ignition feed.

But to answer the question of the OP, you should be ok even if the charging circuit is always active. Leaving it for a few weeks, however, may be different story.

I'm interstate for a few days so can't check, but I don't recall that in my cars.
And it makes no sense to design it that way.
Perhaps someone else can check ?

What model of Tiguan do you have?
          Was MDI standard or option?
Where is connector that you plug into?
          Are you using extender cable?
What iPod model do you have?

Sorry for all questions, just trying to get to bottom of this.
