    Howdy

I have tried searching, but I only seem to pull up the whole thread... so I pull up 56 odd pages etc... or I have pulled up shorter post delivery install stuff etc...

I have an MY12 Passat with RCD, and I have started trying to use the voice control function, but I cant seem to get it to work... I tried looking in the manual, and doing the Push the mic button, then say "help"... but nothing happens... a mute symbol appears on the RCD and that is it, factory bluetooth does not seem to react... and I sit there in the underground carpark at work, progressively getting frustrated and yelling help at the car as people walk by... nice to know people, um, stop to, well, help...

Is this mic button a red herring? You'd think a factory unit would use it. I read somewhere that this was deleted in the US as it cause more complaints than it's worth VW's bothering...

Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Cheers

i don't know about vw, but according to the skoda manual - voice control only works with the rns510, not the rcd510.

pushing the mic button on the steering will mute the audio & activate the bluetooth. it should make a boing type of sound, after which u may voice ur command, like "Dial Number".
if ur bluetooth isn't reacting, i'd take it back to the dealer & get it checked.
or they've fitted 9w2 bluetooth from factory. 9w2 does not support voice control. u'll have to upgrade the bt unit to 9w7.
if u do that, voice control will still only work on phone functions. u won't be able to control other functions like radio, cd etc etc., cause rcd510 no likey voice control.

does ur bluetooth work via touch on the 'phone' menu?

I have a MY12 Golf with factory bluetooth. Darkshadow is right, voice control only comes with the RNS, not the RCD. I tried enabling it with Vagcom but still no luck. I think the latest version bluetooth is the 9wz. If anyone manage to get voice control going on the 9wz, I would be interested to know how it's done.

i retrofitted the 9wz bt unit with mine. it works like a charm with my voice control.
it uses the factory fitted mic, i.e. the rns510's voice control. i didn't use the bt's mic.
the bt wiring harness i got was plug'n'play, and it was setup to use the rns510's mic.

I understand the 9wz works on an RNS, but we are talking here about the RCD.

Thanks for that... seems like it is available in the EU (plenty of RCD's with blue tooth voice control there on youtube and what not)... Might have to pull the BT unit out and see if it has a sticker on it that will tell me if it is a 9w-whatever... (if it is still under the seat)

I am not after voice control of the stereo... has anyone had luck engaging the handset (pushing the phone button) and using the phones voice control to dial ?(does the standard VW BT let you do that? I spose I will try this weekend).

            Cheers & thanks
