  • RNS510 - firmware upgrade to 3810 - now flickering screen? Seen this before?

    Hi all

Anyone experience this - the firmware upgrade worked fine, as I thought, and everything appears there. Also upgraded to V5 maps. Screen is more sensitive, it's certainly quicker to respond and loads/starts up quicker.

But, on the night setting, the screen is flickering between various degrees of brightness. Not much, but enough that if you watch you can see it getting slightly lighter or slightly darker as if its not sure what the brightness should be.

Anyone experienced this? It was a C unit, (1T0035680C) and is now 1T0035680D, running 3810 (upogarded from 2680) and maps 7679

Have rebooted a few times and going to see how it pans out, but it does seem as if in daylight mode it does NOT do this - only when varying degrees of brightness are available.

My C unit (running stock 2680 firmware) does have a variable-brightness screen; I'm sure yours does too. In the top-right corner of the unit is an ambient light sensor, which is used to determine how brightly the screen is backlit. Cover it with your finger and you'll see it dim. When I'm driving along at night with the roof open, I notice it gets brighter every time I pass under a streetlight.

Thanks Adam. This is not that though - you can be stationary and the screen is almost constantly changing....

I've seen this issue before on a version C unit. Try upgrading to 3970. It worked for me.

Just wanted to acknowledge your advice and help - upgraded to 3970 today and it would appear all the flickering has gone. Will test it more at night but certainly it seems to have improved. Interestingly, upgrading from 3810 to 3970 did not require a re-installation of the maps. They just reloaded themselves - I guess the partition remains the same. But many many thanks for your advice.
