Should be a way of disabling it . My My11 Passat came back after a service like that and on reading the Manual found out how to disable it via the MFD.
Mine locks at about 6kph Not 40.
My father had this in a Toyota Crown and he got hit on the front R/H corner and it jammed the locks and they couldnt get him out. Had to smash windows.
Luckily they couldnt get the bits to fix the auto locking. A very dangerous thing to have.
Manually lock them with the drivers switch if you feel unsafe

in ur mfd u can set it to manual or automatic.

u'll need to use vcds to modify at what speed the auto lock activates.

generally, if the car goes upside down etc or an airbag depoys, the doors will unlock

the above was my understanding also... in the event of a crash all the doors are meant to automatically unlock.

And I kind of trust that more from a late model VW than a Toyota Crown !

i checked and mine is in the MFD as well, however most of the settings arent available untill i was in park, or the handbrake was on. thats where i found the door locking function. i like the unlock function when the keys are removed too!
