    Installed a sub... sound sucks..

    Well, I followed every guide I could find..
    Tapped into the wires behind my RNS-510 into a LOC, ran the rca cables to my 300wrms amp, and into my 300wrms sub...

    And the bass is just an overwhelming noise, there is no kick to it, and you can even hear the music itself if you turn the LPF up on the amp..

    Is there anyway to get a purer bass? more of a kick?

    Would an active sub be better?

    any ideas.

    Do you have a low pass filter? Like on the amp or something maybe? All that should be going to the sub is bass, <100hz at the most really.

    Edit, sorry didnt see you mentioned LPF. Make sure you have that on and its not feeding your sub anything high. Ive never used on the the new vw headunit things, but does it have an equaliser etc in it?

    An active sub is practically the same thing isnt it? Just with the amplifier built in with the subwoofer. Id say it will be something to do with hopw you have the amp or the RNS-510 tuned.

    Also, a bad subbox or having it in a bad position can change the sound a lot.

      What's the LOC? Does it convert the speaker level signal down to line level? If so, it sounds like this isn't working properly.

      Without the LPF switched in, it's not unusual to be able to hear some midrange though the sub so nothing is wrong there.

      Does the amp have speaker level inputs? If so, try connecting straight to these from the RNS-510 speaker outputs without the LOC.

        what LOC are you using... could be faulty

        don't scimp on your LOC. those $20 ones are pretty poor.

        Factory HU does not have EQ just standard bass/treble adjust.
        i have read that the facory HU (510 etc) speakers outs are pretty good and flat and also driven well without clipping.

          Yeah, even a $150 LOC is still a crude solution, prone to problems, and I've never had success with one. My vote it your problem is in the LOC setup.

            Thanks for the replies guys, I dont think there is another option when it comes to the RNS510 apart from the LOC?

            Yes the amp has a LPF, its a nice amp too. the wiring has been done with heatshrinks and carefully etc and the LOC isn't too cheap

              What amp are you using vraptor? Most have a set of speaker level inputs.

                I am using a mid range Audio Line amp, it has the ability to change Power Level, LPF, and Bass boost.
                The LOC has no options at all.

                  Is it like one if these? Ampliefier azx2002
                  If so, you can see the high level inputs which do not require an LOC - labelled as "HIGH INPUT" next to the RCA inputs (and outputs)

                    Hey yeh it does have the plug that says high level, but what kind of wires do i need to run that? bummer ill have to re-wire everything to do that, will it make a big difference? is that just a built in LOC?

                      Yep, that input has the built in LOC.
                      They should have supplied a plug that fits that input with the amp which passes out 4 wires to be connected directly to the speaker outputs (basically, the amp, rather than the LOC, gets directly wired in parallel to the speakers).

                      I think it should make a big difference. Where in Melbourne are you or will you be going to Dubstitute? I could have a look at your system if you like.

                        Aah thanks, I bought the amp second hand so I do not have this plug, I am on the mornington peninsula, and I have no idea what dubstitute is I still call myself quite new to the community (even though I got the car back in August), just havn't had much time to play!
