RNS Firmware upgrade to 3xxx

well...I bit the bullet and tried to apply FW3xxx (karmolds custom FW) this morning and each time I attempted it, it returned an Error 10306

Currently running the following: Del. Part. No. 1 T0035680 C
HW-Version H05
SW-Version 2760
SV SW-Version C_EU_9.242_t520

Running map 7492 (V4.1)

Any thoughts? Might go and pick up some new media and try that, however the current media (DVD-R) that I have used has worked successfully previously. Is anyone able to confirm that the unit quoted above is definitely a C unit and not a re-badged/flashed A/B unit? 'cos if it's a the latter, then FW2760 would appear to be as far as I can go, without going to the trouble of getting a new motherboard etc. And I'm not about to do that.

I note that my unit 1 T0035680 C is not listed in the Part number file. Guess this means it's not suitable to a C unit........

So...6 x DVDs & 1 x CD later.....no joy.

I reckon it's because the Part Number of my unit doesn't match the required info in the disc TOC file.

I definitely have a C unit and it definitely all works on mine.

Only way to tell for sure what your unit is, is via a VCDS scan.


Suggest you try installing an original unmodified FW 3970.

If that works, then it's got nothing to do with your unit.

I remembered I had a VCDS scan log tucked away on my HDD.....found it. Was done when i had the issue with the steering wheel controls with FW2660. Of course, that's been resolved now.

Sorry to disappoint ... but your unit is an A.

Basically the VCDS scan doesn't lie:

Part No SW: 1T0 035 680 C HW: 1T0 035 680 A

But your unit does, when you view it via secret menu.

Your FW 2760 installed makes it look like a C unit.

Just like mine appears to be a D unit after installing FW 3970.

I upgraded mine and wifey's and mother's C units to 3720 this weekend. It took a while.

Happy to give it a go. Why did it take a while? Do you mean the time take:

1. To download, or
2. To apply the FW update to the 3 units?
3. Or the fact that applying it to one unit took a while.

I must've grabbed the wrong file last time.

I now have an A unit that thinks it's a D unit. Running FW3810. V4.1 maps (unmodified) with ALL OEM POI's working. MFSW works as well.

I finally decided to jump onto the bandwagon..updated to unmodified 3810 from 2720.

But this is odd, my v4.1 maps were still intact without needing to re-install it. All my settings were still there. Very strange!

Before the update, I installed v4.1 maps over my v3 on my fw2720 Hw41 ver C. After enabling the secret menu through VCDS, my HDD shows 3 partition on a 2720 which I thought was odd.

I got my RNS replaced after a theft case involving my RNS being ripped out (long story!)...I had the new boot screen at first, but after enabling my Dynaudio, the splash screen went back to the old pic with the Dyn logo.

I'm thinking that my RNS is actually formatted with 3 partitions but running 2720. Any ideas?

I stlll hv a problem where it started after updating to V4.1 maps; my location is always a few metres behind the actual even at static mode (stopped)..some forum readings tells me about some compass signal issue but think it was only for US ver?

Today I went for a drive to get a fix on the Gps satelites, i noticed after getting a full fix (~6/8 sats) and making a turn, the car turns into the road on the screen but the map doesn't turn together. The map rotates (points forward) after a few sec. Any suggestions? It was working fine with V3 maps and 2720.

I've got a version C with firmware 38xx and 4.1 maps and have a little lag - guess that's why the newer versions of the RNS have faster processors now.

From memory 3810 doesn't actually re-format the HDD.

So that explains why you don't lose anything.


The lag is normal for C units since we're all punching above our weight on 3XXX series FW.

ah....FW3810 does format the HDD. I installed it last weekend...lost music and maps
