  • Bora sound system recommendations

    Hi guys,

I just purchased my BORA V6 4MOTION SPORT a couple of weeks ago, and was looking to install a new head unit to replace the old standard CASSETTE/CD STACKER.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on what they think is the best head unit/speakers?

    cheers guys.

You will have to specify a budget otherwise you wont really get an answer you want.

Well, to be honest i don't really have a budget. I am not really fussed how much i have to spend to have a good system in the car, but at the moment just looking to change the head unit first.

best advice about head unit (and i've put in a few with my bora and the golf before that): get a Sony XPLOD. It's single din so you get to keep that nice recess for keys/wallet etc above, and it's really compatible with your iPhone (does BT handsfree calling and iTunes streaming) and has AUX if you foolishly bought an Android.

i'm using stock speakers for now; but i've heard Kickers are pretty sweet...

Been a long time since I was an audiophile but... headsets for quality I would look at clarion, pioneer and alpine, sony for the lower end of the quality (but still in the quality) range. I have a personal dislike of the brand and just hate that dodgey logo. Speakers... kickers are indeed good as are the above brands, if subs are your thing dont be sucked into the glam and do yourself a favour and jump into your local jaycar. Unbranded subs with top build quality and deep, sharp bass unless your into the muddy sound. They are also about half the price for similar quality subs from big names... keep in mind these are QUALITY, so when I say less cost I am talking about the $700 + per speaker price range from the big names.

Man I miss being an audiophile

edit: oh amps... remember that underpowering a speaker will blow it instantly, no ifs, buts or maybes and thats a fact. If you have a set of 75w rms splits (thats 2 sets for a bora with an 8 speaker system) then you need a 4 channel amp with at least 75w rms per channel + extra channels if you want subs. Over powering speakers will not blow them unless you max out the noise button for extended periods unless you are trying to push a stupid amount of power. Always buy speakers and amps to match and always look at rms power not 'market' power

              Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I have actually been looking at Alpine and a few others, so it's good to know i'm on the right track.

Hopefully soon i'll be able to post some pictures of my BORA

If you say no budget i recommend the the pioneer avic f20bt. Does everything you want in a head unit and more. Very nice menu and sound quality.
Ignore the car in pieces thought i had a better picture
