  • Roof Console - Three-Button Module - Reprogram

It's late, the dealer is not there, and I have a question I can't answer from the manual
There's a roof console with the cabin lights, a small cubby hole to store things, and some sensors. Manual explains all that when you search enough.

Now, on the driver side are three buttons. One is has a spanner, one a 'star' shape and without going to the car, and an 'i' (information?).

I can't find mention of any of these three in the manual - mind you, I've only skimmed about half of it as it's confusing.

Who has the answer? Have I made another thread in the wron spot? (Sorry Mods)

They're for the Bluetooth. You'll find them in the Bluetooth supplemental manual.

Bluetooth.... OK... obviously there's yet another book I have to try to read. There's the owners, the RCD510 (player 8 or something), warrantee, service, and if it's in there a Bluetooth.

Here I was thinking all the bluetooth was controlled from the RCD thing and the steering wheel buttons. Bloody hell, where do I sign up for the pilots lisence to drive this damn car.

Thanks Corey, you're a goldmine of information.

        Don't get too excited:

If you hold down the spanner it is meant to dial (via bluetooth and your phone) VW assistance - This tries to dial a Euro phone number
If you hold down the i key it will contact VW information - again a Euro phone number
Pressing the star will activate the voice control, unless you have an RNS510 in which case the star button on that device overrides the roof console.

Therefore the buttons should be labelled: Chocolate teapot, motorbike ashtray & bull tits.

Oh. They're useless then. I wonder if voice control would work with an iPhone. Seems problematical at best for those. Maybe I need to get a different 'smart' phone.....

I'll just use the MFD to make calls. Thank you people for the valuable information.

            Gold. LOL.
Hmnn. Wonder if these can be reprogramed by VCDS to do something useful for local context.
e.g. spanner - call VW assist in AU

Hangonwut? The spanner button calls VW assist in Europe? Surely that can be configured to call the VW Australia's roadside assist. Surely!

Not sure if it can be changed. When I tried it the number it tried to ring on my phone was 008008655792436

Just wondering if it's possible to update the speed dial numbers which are associated with the three-button module, Info/Service etc? Seems my Golf R still thinks it's in Europe and wants to dial 00805655792436 which doesn't particularly help me much here in Australia.

I've got a mate who's got a new Passat and his dials local Aussie numbers.

I've moved this to the VW Car Audio and Electronics forum, because it's got more chance of having someone who knows (since these buttons are in lots of other models too).

I'd also like to know the answer if anyone knows....

I've tried to do it through VCDS, found the string (can't remember where it is...) but it asks for the new number in 16 digit hexadecimal or something, but it didn't accept the Australian toll-free number as a replacement value. I gave up after about 5 minutes, but I'm happy to go hunting for the location again if someone else wants to play with it

edit: after reading the OP again, maybe we could all just copy the coding that's on his Passat if you can organise to hook it up to a laptop?

this should be set up when the vehicle is PDIed and can be changed via adaption channels in the phone control unit 77 should be set to vw assist and I button to your local dealer/selling dealer will find out the actual adaption values tomorro

Thanks bushnut. I must say that this is one of those things which the dealers miss very often.

I've checked around if it can be done to mine and i don't think the three buttons will function for service calls like in europe,
coding or adapting different numbers can be done you could possibly store a workshop number or nrma road service it will call through
your own phone. Thats about it!!!
