  • Where to purchase a longer MDI cable?

Hi all, searched the web for this but seems like nobody's got a decent answer!

I use a holder for iphone that usually sits next to the head unit.
Unfortunately the MDI cable is extremely short! My MDI module is in the arm rest so I'd need a 50cm cable at least

Any idea where I can get one of these? or at least an extension cable?

      Wow... that's embarrassing!
For some reason I didn't even think of an extension apple cord, saves me $$$.

      Thanks mate!

I doubt this will work, this is 17 pin cable you will waste your $. You need FULL 30 PIN cable. not many around as they are more expensive. I can confirm that CableJive which I use is full 30 PIN and works with MDI as an extension cable.

Quick update... I purchased a cable which claimed to be 30-pin and it indeed does not work.

However, $31 is a hell lot of money for it...

I got a cable off eBay that works OK but not consistent. I gave up in the end and plan to use the bt and aux in when I need to. Worked about 80% of the time.

Most of the time the iPhone sits in the center console. For navigation, I slip it into a vent holder and use a power-in+aux cable I bought a while back.

Or you could look for VW part number 000 051 447

I bought one when retrofitting my MDI:

I bought the 2' CableJive dockXtender and it works faultlessly.
