  • RNS 510 Problem

I've had an RNS510 for a little over a year now in my Passat. Just recently, it is constantly getting lost - saying it's off-road when it's not, or saying it's on a different road. Sometimes up to about 500m out. Any ideas ? Would a software refresh fix the problem ? Many thanks.

My first thought would be to check the antenna and its connections, then the power (connections, and voltage at the input.)

You could try reloading the maps, but it's unlikely to be the problem.

What navigation version do you have installed?

Version 2760. There's been no issues before now, and it's only an intermittant problem. If I reboot the unit it generally fixes itself.

Do you have an in-car video camera?

I had the same problem with mine, I tried rebooting and it would be OK for a short time and then revert to acting wierd again. Problem was interference from a screen mounted video camera I had installed, removed the camera and the RNS worked fine.

Unfortunately I had itr installed after I bought the car (more than 12 months ago now). Purchased the unit from OS.

No, it's actually gotten worse. I've checked and it's not receiving any GPS signal at all (hence being very inaccurate). I've ordered a new GPS antenna so hoping that will fix things. I don't particularly want to pull my dash apart to pull it out - but then it seems like an easy enough job, I guess I should do it myself !

a new GPS antenna fixed the issue for me. It was not picking up any satellites as well (a few weeks after I moved it from another car)

It would appear that mine is heading down the same path after less than 1 month.
The unit takes a long time to get a fix with only 3 to 4 sats.
Then the location is lagging and I'm not even driving fast

Wandersen - Would appreciate if you could advise if fixed when new installed. Thanks.
