VW are doing a very bad job with this important safety item. Apparently there isn't a VW or VW-approved one for any VW in Australia, not even for the expensive Touaregs. You can get them after market for some models but VW won't officially have anything to do with them. I think one is absolutely essential on the Multivan, but I haven't been able to find anyone who can do it - problems with the software in the sat/nav head unit, among other things apparently. Anyone had any luck or got any tips?
    thanks

theres an auxilary video input on the sat nav units isnt there? just get a camera off ebay or somewhere and do the wiring yourself and plug it into the aux input in your satnav is what id guess youd do? not sure where youd mount the camera though... probably at the top of your tailgate. would be hard to make it look oem though :S

      Welcome to VWwA type3sedan

The new Touareg is now available with optional camera tied into sat nav pack IIRC

Thanks folks. Germanwithavdub, there is an aux or video input, but apparnelty you need some software to make it work and it hasn't been loaded. Trying to track it down. I think the camera will go near the number plate. I've sent an email to VWA so might get a reply some time... I've had more luck emailing VW in Germany to be honest in the past.

hmmm there might be some sellers of other plug-in things such as tv tuners etc that can tell you how to activate the aux input. im afraid i dont think you'll get very far with vw... they wont give you any help regarding aftermarket mods sadly. i have a feeling you can just buy an adapter off ebay to convert the vw input plug to a regular video input plug. isnt there a "aux" button on the front of your satnav display? what happens when you press that?
