  • Kenwood Head Unit

    Hi guys.

I am considering upgrading my Mark 4 Golf's head unit from the default blaupunkt head unit that came with the Golf.

I like the look of the Kenwood KDC-U349R. My main reason for upgrading is the fact that I want to be able to listen to music from my iPhone while driving without getting interference in which an FM transmitter gives you.

I was just wondering what your opinions on this head unit are if you have any?

    Thanks,
    Bruce.

Couldn't figure out how to edit original post on phone.

    Thanks once again.

So you want to just have a 3.5mm cable (aux in) with no control of the HU, and no power?
Why not spend a bit extra and get one with Ipod control built in, will charge your iphone while driving and give you (legal) control of the music on your iphone. The base Alpine with Ipod control retails for $299 (CDE-125BTi) and also has bluetooth built in.
One thing to look for with these is whether the ipod connection is in the front or the back. Note that most USB's will not just work with an ipod cable - you need a propietary interface. Wander into your local JB and see what they have - I just looked at Alpine because I know the interface works well, albeit a little "cludgy" on the single line display (if you have lots of albums like Ministry of Sound or Triple J Hottest 100 you can not tell the difference while scrolling)
That said - there is nothing wrong with the 3.5mm cable interface - sound quality is heaps better than FM, but it is limited as to what it can do.
      Al..

Thanks for that reply 99_FGT. I have considered your opinion and I am actually really considering getting the Alpine head unit instead of the Kenwood.

Just wondering if you would be able to explain how the Bluetooth hands free works as it doesn't say it comes with a mic, or is their a built in mic in the head unit itself?

        Thanks,
        Bruce.
