  • RCD510 / RNS510 Question

    Hi guys,

I'm a new MK5 owner. Picked up my 06 GTi yesterday. I'd like to upgrade the factory head unit so I'm looking at the RCD510 and RNS510 options.

A bit of reading has informed me that the RCD510 installed in mine will require a can bus gateway upgrade due to the power draw issue. Once this is fitted will it be able to be all coded to work by my local dealer?

Or the other option the RNS510, does it have the same power draw issue or is it just plug and play.

With either unit does it matter what version of the unit I purchase?

    Thanks in advance guys!
    Simon

Both units will have the same power draw issue in an early model Mk5. The CAN bus unit has to be upgraded.

Check Maverick's site for the versions to get for the Mk5.

        Hey Simon

As for the coding, any other mechanic can do it for cheaper than the dealer, for you being in Dubbo that might be a bit harder.

If you're ever in Sydney we can point you to people who can do it.

There is a frimware for the RNS510 that stop the power drain but then that will prevent you from upgrading it in the future.

Thanks for the help guys. Can anyone suggest anywhere to buy a suitable can bus gateway at a reasonable price?

Ask in the For Sale section. You have missed all the group buys so see if you can wrangle trade price out of a dealer.

Try that my-gti website for the part number.

            Cheers

              Hey Simon

A mate can sell you a CAN gateway for an RCD/RNS 510. Pm me for the details.
