  • Installed an RNS510 - need some advice about a few issues

    Hi guys.

I recently bought an RNS510 for my 2007 Golf GT. Since I probably have an older CANBUS and didn't want to update I opted to get an older B series version with 1120 Firmware to avoid any battery drain issues. The unit is in and everything seems to be working fine however I few a few questions -

My old radio seemed to list all the radio stations on the dash MFD display - in fact it had a whole menu section dedicated to the audio system. This in now gone -all I have is the standard car setup menu and the vehicle information ( average fuel consumption ect ). Is this normal?

Am I not supposed to have navigational instructions appearing on the MFD display in the dashboard? I don't.

Speaking of Navigation instructions - the RNS510 seems to speak them out, it dims the regular music that's playing and softly speaks the instruction - my question is...is there any way I can increase the volume of these instructions? They are very quiet I can hardly hear them. The RNS510 menu seems to have an option for Navigational Commands where you can have them on, off or dynamic. Switching to dynamic seems to do very little.

Apart from that I'm happy with it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Could this be in the MFD set up? Maybe it got reset during the install?

Usually yes. This may need to be set up via VAGCOM. Could resolve the above issue too.

Ok, fiddled with this issue in the last hour or so on my RNS. The bottom left button on the unit should be "TONE". In there you should be able to set default volumes and such for all aspects of the unit. One of them is the navigational commands. Check in there and see what you can find.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I don't mean to Hijack the thread but I installed mine today and have the EXACT same problem with the MFD display - no audio or navigation screen options where previously with the MFD2 Nav unit I had them. Understand that the only way is a vagcom to recode it?

Also installed a Custom software 2720 with canbus software 1100. Have video in motion and so far not battery issues at all to report - hope it stays this way.

Hi yes you need to to use vcds/vagcom to code for it to appear in the MFD as otherwise it does not know you have installed a nav unit

Volume can be adjusted as described above otherwise just adjust the volume directly when the nav is reading out a instruction. This will adjust and retain the volume setting for the speech. Obviously if you wait too long and the radio or media starts playing again adjust the volume will adjust the volume for that only. Press the i button top right of the console to repeat the last said direction.

Managed to get the volume to increase as explained so that solves that - now about the MFD. I don't have a VAGCOM so is this something I can just ask my dealer to do at my next service? Will they have enough brains to know how to do this or can someone give me some instruction on exactly what I need to ask the dealer to do.
