  • RCD510 + Stock Speakers Horrible - Upgrade?

    Hi Guys,

Just got my 118TSI and the car is great. Had the dealer install the RCD510 and I love the head unit however when playing Media I get really harsh sounds on S's and T's sounds (high frequency sounds), I'm not a huge audiophile but I like my music enough that it hurts my ears (even my girlfriend noticed it was doing it).

Thinking about doing a speaker upgrade on the car, i've read around the forums and I was wondering if there was anything special I needed to do when changing the speakers out for aftermarket, I'm guessing I can just use the RCD510 and won't need an amp. I really just want to get rid of this high frequency sound, it's a shame there so crap, I am LOVING the car apart from this.

u dont need an amp, u can just swapout the oemspeakers with any 6.5" speaker. like anything the more u spend, then u should get better results. just set a budget and do some research. buy online if money is tight as it makes good buying nowadays.
ive bought a ton of gear recently and had some installed, works great

Okay so the 4 stock component speakers are just 6.5" with tweeters? Any idea how large the tweeters are? I had a look around the forums and someone said 0.75" sound about right? Guessing a 1.8" tweeter wouldn't fit in the stock tweeter location in the doors?
