  • Ipod interface to stock head unit

Hi All, can anyone please let me know if this cable is all I need to connect a USB thumbdrive or IPOD to the stock head unit in an 06 GTI Golf? I would have pulled the head unit and looked myself but I don't collect the car until Tuesday. Any help would be most appreciated!

if you are referring to an RCD500 (as stock head unit).....no. It won't work.

That cable is used in conjunction with the MDI interface.VW MEDIA IN INTERFACE MDI RNS510 MFD3 RETROFIT KIT 0060 | eBay

IMHO, the MDI won't weork with the RCD500. You would need the RCD510 or RNS510 (touchscreen models)

Scott - these connect to what Volkswagen call the "Media Device Interface" (MDI) - located in the centre console (or occasionally the glove box).
Unless you have the MDI already installed, then that will not be all you need. Unfortunately VW don't make it that easy. If your new ride has MDI - then you are laughing.
Have a read about the MDI on the interwebs - heaps of info on it (and on here to boot)

Thanks for the reply gents, much appreciated. From the look of things I think I may well be better off putting the money towards a RNS510. I will check for the MDI but I doubt that its already there.
