  • RNS510 installed, 2 problems....

Got my RNS510 installed yesterday but have a couple of problems :

    1) Bubbles on the screen, see this picture

Luckily the top 2 bubbles have dissapeared overnite but I still have the one in the bottom corner. I've tried to push it out with a credit card but it still remains. You can 't see it when the map is on but still I would rather it not be there. Anyone got any idea how I can get rid of it ?

    2) Bluetooth not working correctly. My Bluetooth (VGA098900) worked perfectly with my previous setup but now I cannot hear the callers voice, they can however hear me. Should really have tested this before I left the installer so will unfortunately have to go back and get him to fix it.

Anyway apart from these issues it's a great unit, well worth the outlay !

when you used the credit card - were you able to 'move' the bubbles or did they appear deeper under the surface ?

If you can move them - it's like a protective film for the screen has been left on...

...is it worth trying to prick it with a pin right in the lower left corner ? - dont do it if your not sure !! - just a thought (committed to text)

Yes the bubble moves but I don't think it's the protective coating because the installer peeled that off prior to installation.

As the two smaller bubbles dissapeared I'm hoping that the last one will too given a few days. Fingers crossed anyway !

Quite frankly, looks a bit dodge!

Never heard of bubbles on an actual backlit screen before.

FWIW, I'd be returning it for a refund or exchange.

I agree with aussietig if it doesn't have a plastic protective cover on the screen then it has a problem with the LCD display, if possible return it as faulty. I'm a little surprised that the installer didn't notice this and if such he should have advised you it had a problem rather than continuing with the install As far as the bluetooth issue I would suggest that the voice volume needs adjustment from within the unit settings.

I wonder what my chances are of the Lithuanian seller sending me another unit then paying the freight of the damaged one back ?? I shall ask and report back.

As for the Bluetooth there are no settings within the RNS 510 for it as it's not the Premium Bluetooth.

There is a setting for telephone volume, you'll find it under SETUP / VOLUME SETTINGS / TELEPHONE VOLUME. I don't know if this will help you or not but it might be worth a try

I don't have that option under SETUP :

Perhaps as my Bluetooth is different to yours ?

I don't have bluetooth with mine, I have been looking through options for you in the RNS510 manual (PDF format) maybe the sound problem is associated with the unit, perhaps another fault besides the LCD display issue ?

I guess I will find out when I go back to the installer and he double checks the installation, what a pain

Ok well turns out that Bluetooth isn't compatible with the RNS510.

As to the bubble on the screen, the Lithuanian seller has suggested he send me a replacement front panel rather than the whole unit. He said it's just a matter of taking out 6 screws to change it over.

Anyone know if it's really that simple ?

Well that's a win for complaining!

I've got to say that we really can't fault him on post-sales customer service, despite the perception or stereotyping that goes on.
Certainly has been my experience with him!

But whether there was a need to engage in post-sales communication (had things been right the first time round) is another matter.

Anyhow, I'm sure it would just be as he's described!
Probably but just need to pull the unit out slightly to access the screws to remove the face!

But if all else fails! Just complain again!
