  • What is the latest map?

    Chaps

Is there a thread anywhere that outlines the latest map update versions of those of running the OEM sat nav unit RNS510 know what upgrades are available?

I know the dealer told me that whenever there is an update that I know about to come in and they will update mine. Which is fine, but I also have Pimp-my-nav software so I can add on my own speed cameras and other POI's etc which works well - but you need a copy of the original disk to update it and create your own.

Thus wondered if anyone out there can advise where we are with updates - or is there already a section on this? Thanks

I think there's a section, but the search function doesn't seem to find it.

However, the latest maps are V3 — been out a bit over a year now and already miles out of date.

Can you only buy the map updates through dealers. Or should I put it are dealers the only authorised sellers? How do you know when there is an update?

        Try here: BMW Navigation Systems

        $99 including postage, I think. As to legality, I haven't a clue.

Thanks for that idle. I'm surprised that 2008 is the most up to date map.

Correct me if wrong, but I believe V3 is 2010. Was not 2008 V2?

The VW page says they're supplying the V3 (2010) disc now. The only reference to 2008 is the year the device (RNS-510) was released AFAIK.

As I said, I've no idea — haven't dealt with him at all. There appears to be nothing clandestine about it, but you never can't tell...

He also offers the old (V2) disc and firmware updates for RNS510 B & C units for $5 posted — doesn't say which updates they are tho'.

I'll double check my disc, but I am pretty sure mine has a date of 2009 on it, and it is V3, and the van is 2 months old.

Thanks for that AdamD I probably misread it. 2010 sounds alot better then 2008 maps.

The latest data on the V3 disc is from 2009. They are way out of date.
IMO, the TomTom app on my iPhone works better and is more accurate.

the latest vw map is v3. this is whereis v16.
essentially "Road data current to the 2009 UBD releases".

the current whereis maps is v17, however vw/audi will not get a v17, instead, the next update will be v18, scheduled for late 2011/early 2012.

Excellent - many thanks for that. My dealer advised I can go oin any time for the update to be installed, but I;d like a copy of the disk just as back up anyway....

u should've been given the dvd maps by ur dealer.
if u have ur sat nav factory fitted, u have a right to the dvds for the maps installed on ur rns510.

mine was ready for pickup a week after i picked up my car.
VwAG do not ship the dvd maps with the car anymore due to a high number of theft during "transit". once the dealer recieves the car, VAG sends out the dvd maps for that particular car/vin. takes bout a week or two, sometimes quicker to reach the dealer, who should then call u advising that the dvd is ready for pickup.

however, from wat i've read in various posts, it seems alot of dealers aren't rightly handing this dvds over to the customers.
                            dodgy!!!
