  • Ebay RNS510 - Microphone???

    Hey all,

Like many others, I'm considering the upgrade to an RNS510 into my new (albeit MY09 model) R36 from one of the ebay sellers.

My question is, as none of them seem to come with a mic for voice control how have others gotten around this? Have you purchased a mic seperately or gone without?

I'll also be installing a 9WZ bluetooth at the same time, so can the RNS voice control be operated through the BT mic??

If you purchase the Bluetooth from the Ebay seller in Portugal ('car-sales' is the name of the website I think), then with some VCDS coding and correct wiring (Plug'n'play) you can use the BT microphone for voice control. See here for instructions.

I enabled this when I installed my BT and RNS510 and then disabled it again shortly thereafter. I much prefer using the microphone button on my steering wheen to mute/pause the music rather than talk to my car. The only time I can think of using voice control is to call someone on the phone, but since your entire phone book shows up on the MFD and is accessible via the steering wheel buttons, I don't think voice control is worth it in my case, whereas I'll use the mute button multiple times per day.

I installed an RNS510 (Poland) and a 9W7 (Spain) at the same time into a 2011 Polo 6R TDI, and both voicecontrol and Bluetooth work using the SAME mic, without any coding required. Coding only required to show stuff on the cluster MFD and have the buttons work.

        Thanks for the replies.

Have received both RNS510 (C LED Lithuania) & BT (9WZ Portugal) & have decided toleave fitment to Barloworld Five Dock who've quoted $275 for install & coding (think this sounds pretty reasonable). I had a chat with him & confirmed that all info will be displayed on the MFD & voice activation will be working. Will let you know how it goes...

That price for install only is quite reasonable I think! Hope it all goes well. Barloworld here in Melbourne wanted $1500 to install just the bluetooth unit (including the part).
