  • Antenna adapter for RNS510 on eBay ?

    Hi,

Can someone please give me a link for the Antenna adapter for the RNS510 on eBay ?
I've looked but there are a few different searches that come up, not sure which is correct.

    Thanks

From what to what? From RCD300/500 to RNS 510?
You should have the "twin fakra" connector, if it is an older unit it is two seperate plugs versus the joined plug on the newer ones.
Maverick's brilliant site my-gti.com should have what you are after.

In reference to the options of converting the 2 x single
FAKRA antenna cables from a 2nd gen RCD300 into a
dual-FAKRA required by 3rd gen units like the RNS510
            (Details on maverick's site: Upgrading 2nd generation radios (RCD 300, RCD 500) to 3rd generation (RCD 210, RCD 310, RNS 310, RNS 510, RCD 510) antenna adapter | my-gti.com )

Is it possible to snap off the plastic connectors from
the 2 x single FAKRA wires in the car, and insert the
metal SMA plugs into the dual-FAKRA plastic connector
bit from the $40 adapter, even if the SMA plugs are
            the 90' degree swivel type?

On the photo of the $40 adapter it looks like the
dual-FAKRA end has 2 x 90' degree swivel SMA plugs
            inside.

This way I would avoid any signal loss from having the
in-line connections, but have still adapted the wires from the
old single-FAKRA housings to the new double-FAKRA housing.

            Thanks for any advice!

I've got several of the kits Maverick has outlined as Option 1 that I'm selling.

Update: I bought the antenna adapter pictured above, and tried to put the original car plugs (without the plastic bits because I snapped them off) into the adapter's dual-fakra plastic case. Result = fail. The metal SMA plugs in the car are a difference shape and don't fit in the adapter's white plastic dual-FAKRA housing.

Because using the adapter would cause a considerable loss of signal from the aerial, (by adding further interconnects, each extra connection causes reflection of signal and up to 3dB signal loss) I decided to just shove the SMA plugs into the back of the RNS510 without their little plastic cases. They hold securely enough, the SMA connectors are pretty good by themselves, not sure why the extra FAKRA plastic is needed in the first place......
